Digital Scrapbooking Basics

Because of the digital cameras that all of us use nowadays to capture great moments, we most often than not end up with thousands of pictures just sitting in our hard disk, our USB drive, or burnt to CDs and DVDs. Wouldn’t it be nice to turn these pictures into wonderful works of art that we can look at anytime we like without having the need to turn on your PC or laptop?

Then you must definitely try digital scrapbooking.

In digital scrapbooking, instead of using papers, stamps, elements, adhesives and the like, you can create stunning layouts with photos and digital elements using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, Photoshop Elements and the like.

Digital Scrapbooking has a lot of advantages and among those include:

  1. Instead of storing individual pictures on your computers, you can save a single layout containing numerous pictures, which takes up less space in your computer. It can also help organize your photos so you will not end up having tons of unorganized folders containing pictures, which you have collected through the years.

  2. The layouts that you can make are just limited by your imagination. You can play around with the design of the page without worrying that you will ruin the paper and the elements as a simple “Undo” command from the graphics software that you are using can restore everything back.

  3. Digital Scrapbooking is cheaper and more affordable than the traditional scrapbooking methods as you don’t have to buy anything because there are a lot of sites where you can download free kits and templates. Unlike traditional scrapbooking style where you have to purchase scrapbooking supplies which doesn’t come cheap.

  4. As soon as you are done with the layout, you can have it printed as much as you like.

So how do you get started with digital scrapbooking? Here are 5 easy steps:

  1. Gather the pictures that you will be using weather it is from your digital camera, scanned images, etc. If you can, start organizing the pictures per folder according to the layout or story that you want to create for the scrapbook.

  2. Choose the software that you will use to create layouts. Since it is the software that you will rely on to create a layout, choose the program that you are comfortable with or have experienced using before. Some of the software programs that you can use to make digital scrapbooks are Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paint or the more advance Pixel Magic.

  3. Check the Internet for inspiration. You can join scrapbooking forums and groups where members share their layouts in a gallery so you can find ideas, when you are ready to start with your first layout.

  4. Download kits and templates. There are a lot of sites that you can check where you can download free kits and templates. These kits contain embellishments, letters, background paper and more, which you can use to make the layout.

  5. Once you are done with the layout, you can save it or have it send for printing as individual pages or converted into photo books.

Scrapbooking is a fun and by following the steps mentioned above, you are already on your way to turning your precious pictures to fun and beautiful scrapbook layouts that you will be proud showing off to your families and friends.
