Our Annual Reach Out Activity

>> Wednesday, November 18, 2009

It seems that a week never ends without me attending a meeting or two. This afternoon, I was in one (again) and this time, we discussed the details of our upcoming university-wide reach out program come December 12, 2009. I am very much impressed with the idea shared by our elementary training department principal. We have the kids from our adopted barangay as our recipients, same as last year. However this time, the principal proposed to bring them to a small amusement park here (small and so simple indeed, compared to the Enchanted Kingdom!) named Small World. We agreed with the proposal because it will teach the kids many lessons like care for God’s creations and interfaith dialogue (because they are Muslims and the Small World is run by a Catholic congregation). It is where they can ride amusement rides to their hearts’ content. A tour at the mini zoo will also be conducted where they can see for the first time in their lives some animals like ostriches, bunnies, deer, among others. Aside from the food, we will also be providing them with loot bags and gifts. As early as now, I am already listing possible toys which we would buy. Toys like dolls, cars, toy truck accessories, tea sets, doctor sets and more.

These kids and their families are victims of floods. They live in a very poor area. Most of these kids receive second-hand, relief items. This is why we (the panel for extension) agreed that the stuff and toys that we are going to give those kids are newly bought ones. We want them to feel that they are special so we are going to give them special gifts too. I can’t wait for this event to take place. I am very excited about the preparations too. I just hope that our management team will approve our proposal so we can finalize the plans.
